Nutmeg Sports, HAN’s Connecticut sport show, airs Monday-Thursday at 2 pm on HAN.Network, hosted by Frank Granito, Donald Eng, Kevin Coleman and various HAN sports editors.
On the Wednesday episode of Nutmeg Sports, Frank Granito is joined by John Kovach and Kevin Coleman as we focus in on the boys semifinals in both basketball and hockey. Ridgefield and Wilton won Tuesday night’s semifinals in boys basketball, to advance to their first FCIAC Championship. Ridgefield, New Canaan, Stamford/Westhill, and Greenwich take to the ice Wednesday night to find out who will skate for the FCIAC crown on Saturday afternoon.
In our shows opening segment our hosts look back at Tuesday night’s boys basketball semifinals games that saw Ridgefield and Danbury go to double overtime and the Wilton Warriors knock off the #1 seed Trumbull Eagles. Frank, John and Kevin have full highlights and analysis of the Tigers and Warriors wins, and an early look at how they match up heading into Thursday night’s FCIAC Championship.
Next up the three hosts preview the FCIAC boys ice hockey semifinal game between the #1 Ridgefield Tigers and #4 Stamford/Westhill co-op team. Stamford took down St Joseph in the quarterfinals on Saturday and now hopes to advance to their first championship game since 2004. The Ridgefield Tigers are hoping to win their first title since winning back to back in 2012-2013.
Finally Frank, John and Kevin break down the #6 seed Greenwich Cardinals odds against the #2 New Canaan Rams. The defending conference champion Cardinals qualified for the tournament on the 2nd to last day of regular season play and now find themselves 1 game away from the FCIAC Championship. New Canaan is looking to win their first title since 2014, and their 19th in program history.
