On the Tuesday, March 21, episode of Nutmeg Sports Frank, Kevin and Don put a bow on the winter season breaking down Ridgefield’s first Division 1 boys hockey state title. The Tigers defeated #1 Northwest Catholic 6-2 on Monday night at Yale’s Ingalls Rink in New Haven. Our hosts are also joined by Chris Kaelin to preview an upcoming umpire school for Connecticut’s upcoming season.
In the show’s opening Frank, Kevin and Don look back at Monday night’s Division 1 boys ice hockey state championship between #1 Northwest Catholic and #2 Ridgefield. Both teams were playing in their first Division 1 championship game, and the Tigers wasted no time making themselves at home scoring 3 goals in just 24 seconds in the 1st period. Ridgefield would score 3 more unanswered goal in the 3rd period, and Sean Keegans would add 30 saves as the Tigers took home their first D1 state championship.
Next up HAN corespondent Chris Kaelin joins Nutmeg Sports for the first time to talk about the upcoming Division 1 Little League Umpire clinic which he will be leading as this season’s chief umpire. The clinic is open to umpires from Darien, Stamford North, Stamford American, and Stamford National Little Leagues and will cover rule changes for the upcoming season, specific scenarios which Little League umpires will encounter, and aspects of the 2 man umpires mechanic.
Finally our hosts look back on the winter season and some of their top plays, games and performances from December through March.
