On the Wednesday, March 8, episode of Nutmeg Sports our hosts are joined by Shaun Gallagher, head coach of the Ridgefield ice hockey team, to talk about the team’s FCIAC championship from this past weekend and preview the Division 1 State Tournament. Josh Fisher also jumps on to join Frank and Kevin to debate the benefits of adding a shot clock to high school hoops and take a look at Wednesday’s playoff schedule in boys basketball.
In the show’s opening Frank and Kevin welcome coach Shaun Gallagher to Nutmeg Sports for the first time. Fresh off leading the Tigers to their 6th ever FCIAC championship, coach Gallagher breaks down the Tiger’s success in the regular season on their way to a 20-2 record heading into the state tournament. Ridgefield takes on the 2x defending champion Darien Blue Wave in the 1st round, coach Gallagher will let our hosts know how Ridgefield matches up with Darien the second time around.
Next up, Josh Fisher joins Frank and Kevin to debate the pros and cons of adding a shot clock to high school basketball. Looking back at several key postseason games and possessions Frank, Kevin, and Josh make their case for the shot clock era.
Finally, the gang takes a look at the Wednesday night state playoff schedule with 10 FCIAC schools in action in first and second round play. Plus breakdown of Tuesday night’s state action.
