Summer is just heating up, but if you’ve got a hankering for high school football, the HAN Network will be just the ticket when it broadcasts from the Grip It and Rip It Tournament at New Canaan High School Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8.

Friday, the HAN crew will be live at Dunning Field as pool play starts, interviewing coaches and players.

Saturday we’ll cover all the teams as the tournament kicks into top gear, leading to live coverage of the championship game.

The passing tournament is played in a 7-on-7 format, with receivers challenging linebackers and defensive backs. It gives offenses a chance to lock down timing between the quarterback and receivers and fine-tune routes, while defenses work on coverages and communication.

The FCIAC, which calls the HAN Network its broadcast home, is scheduled to be represented by the host Rams, Darien, Fairfield Ludlowe, Greenwich, Norwalk, St. Joseph, Stamford.

Other Connecticut teams include Brunswick from Greenwich, New Milford, Windsor, Hall of West Hartford, and Daniel Hand from Madison. Teams from New York round out this year’s 16-team field.

Games are played on 40-yard fields, each with a 10-yard end zone.

All plays must be a pass. One-hand touch stops a play and the ball is spotted at the point of touch.

Games last 20 minutes with a running clock, and a 25-second play clock.
