Connecticut Sports Talk, August 9

Frank and Don focus in on some local sports teams and individuals who are competing on the national stage.

Nutmeg Sports, HAN’s Connecticut sport show, airs Monday-Wednesday at 2 pm, hosted by Frank Granito, Donald Eng and various HAN sports editors.

On the Tuesday, August 9, episode of Nutmeg Sports Frank and Don take a look at some local teams still competing for national championships, plus some professional events that took place in Connecticut this past week.

Frank and Don start with the Cal Ripken World Series, where the Norwalk 10 year old All-Stars have played 3 out of 4 first round games. Norwalk lost its opening game against Poughkeepsie, NY, by a score of 14-3. Norwalk won it’s next two games 12-0 and 13-3 vs Missouri and Arkansas. Norwalk has qualified for the championship bracket which will begin on Wednesday afternoon.

Next the guys switch from Cal Ripken over to Little League where the Fairfield American team is one loss away from being eliminated in the Little League New England Regional Tournament. Fairfield fell by a score of 7-1 in it’s opening game against Bedford, New Hampshire. Fairfield American will play against Scarbourough, Maine in the loser’s bracket on Tuesday night at 7pm.

Frank and Don talk about some local swimmers and divers that are competing for national championships. Wilton YMCA Wahoo’s swimmers Jake Kealy and Robby Giller both won national championships in individual events, along with one team relay championship. Norwalk diver Kevin Bradley is currently competing in Georgia at the AT&T USA Diving National Championships, he begins his semifinal matchup this week.

Finally the guys talk some local pro events that took place in Connecticut this past week, including the 1st place Bridgeport Bluefish, the Travelers Championship, and Jim Furyk’s record round of 58.
