Frank and John Kovach put a final wrap on our coverage of the 9th annual Grip It & Rip It Tournament and preview the Connecticut Babe Ruth State Tournament

On the Tuesday, July 12, episode of Nutmeg Sports Frank Granito is joined by John Kovach as the two give a full breakdown of the 9th Annual Grip it & Rip it 7-on-7 tournament from this past weekend and set the stage for this week’s Babe Ruth 13u  Connecticut State Championship.

John and Frank first recap Monday’s conversation with former Masuk and University of Connecticut quarterback Casey Cochran. John offers his opinion on Casey’s article from the Players’ Tribune both as a coach and a fan of football.

Next up the two look back at the highlights from this weekend’s 7-on-7 Grip it & Rip it passing tournament. Looking at highlights Frank and John go all in breaking down the tournament results as well as taking an in depth look at the 7 FCIAC teams that participated in the tournament.

There is also special footage from Saturday morning when Frank wore a GoPro camera while coaching on the sideline of the tournament. Frank and John talk about the experience for Frank and discuss different coaching styles in today’s game.

We look back at interviews with the captains from Greenwich High School and Darien High School as they talk expectations for the tournament, end of the summer, and the upcoming season. New Canaan High School Head Coach Lou Marinelli offers his thoughts on how the tournament has expanded since 2008 and gives us an update on the starting quarterback battle.

 

Finally Frank provides a tournament update for the Connecticut 13u Babe Ruth State Tournament. Round Robin plays concludes this evening, Semi-Finals start Thursday. HAN will be broadcasting those games live, along with the championship on Friday night.
