On the Tuesday, July 19 episode of Nutmeg Sports Frank Granito and Donald Eng look back at our coverage of the 13u Babe Ruth State Championships from last week.
With highlights from the semifinals and championship game Frank and Don break down Thursday’s walk off win by host team Stamford as well as the controversial end of game slide that ended with a minor injury. Then look at what made Waterford so successful in winning their second consecutive state title and whether or not they have a chance at the 2016 regional tournament.
Next the guys check in with the other Connecticut Babe Ruth and Little League teams teams that are still playing in their Sectional, State and Regional tournaments. The Trumbull 15u all star team won it’s state tournament over East Lyme on Saturday night and has advanced to the regional tournament in Mass. The Norwalk 10 year olds are 2 wins away from consecutive Cal Ripken regional championships and Fairfield American won its divisional tournament and is playing in sectionals starting tomorrow.
Finally the guys look at the Hearst Media 2016 Connecticut Girls Lacrosse All-Star roster featuring 10 girls from the FCIAC. Darien led the way with 4 girls including Chandler Kirby, Suzie Ropp, Katie Cronin, and Laura Murphy. Ridgefield High had two girls as midfielder Kimmy Weinstock and goalie Maddie Burns were selected. The finals four girls on the roster were, Warde’s Libby McKenna, Ludlowe’s Regan Steed, Greenwich high’s Paige Mautner and New Canaan’s Catherine Granito. Darien’s Lisa Lindley was named Coach of the Year after leading the Wave to a record of 21-1-1 including the FCIAC and Class L State Title.
