New Canaan hosts the National Select 7-on-7 Grip it & Rip it Passing Tournament

Frank and Dave recap the Under Armour All-American Game from July 2, and Preview Grip it & Rip it with New Canaan Coach Chris Silvestri

Nutmeg Sports, HAN’s Connecticut sport show, airs Monday-Wednesday at 2 pm on HAN.Network, hosted by Frank Granito, Donald Eng and various HAN sports editors.

On the Wednesday, July 6, episode of Nutmeg Sports Frank Granito and Dave Stewart look into The Players’ Tribune article by former Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year Casey Cochran of Masuk. Frank and Dave dig into the controversy behind concussions in football along with Casey’s career ending injuries.

Frank and Dave also recap the 11th Annual Under Armour All-American Lacrosse game in Townson, Maryland. Featuring FCIAC players, Mark Evanchick (Darien HS), Will Perry (Greenwich HS), Kyle Smith (New Canaan HS), David Strupp (New Canaan HS), and Michael Kraus (New Canaan/The Taft School) who suffered a 23-16 loss to the Under Armour South team. Kyle Smith tallied 3 goals for the North, and Will Perry added 2 himself.

Finally the guys are joined by Defensive Coordinator Chris Silvestri, of the New Canaan football coaching staff.Chris is a co-founder of this weekends National Select 7-on-7 Grip it & Rip it passing tournament, along with Greenwich High School Head Coach John Marinelli. Coach Silvestri talks about how the tournament came to fruition and how they intend to continue growing this tournament each year moving forward. Chris credits not only the New Canaan coaching staff but the Greenwich one as well.

Live coverage of the Grip it & Rip it tournament can be see on the HAN Network on both Friday and Saturday. Friday from 2-3 pm Frank and John Kovac will be interviewing both players and coaches about the off-season. Saturday you can catch the semi-finals and championship live starting at 1:30.
