Nutmeg Sports, HAN’s Connecticut sport show, airs Monday-Thursday at 2 pm on HAN.Network, hosted by Frank Granito, Kevin Coleman and various HAN sports editors.
On the Tuesday, June 20, episode of Nutmeg Sports Frank and Kevin bring a new sport of Fairfield County to the forefront of the FCIAC. Our hosts are joined by TRI Federation representation Jeremiah Schwarz to talk about this past weekend’s TRI event featuring Bridegport Central, Harding, and Bassick.
Founded in 2016, TRI is a sport in combining the likes of rugby, flag football, and other sports in which three teams compete simultaneously with and against each other. Used originally as an off-season training exercise for the high school football programs, TRI is quickly gaining steam and legitimacy as it looks to expand to state wide tournaments by summer of 2018.
Jeremiah Schwartz joins our hosts this afternoon to answer questions on how TRI came to fruition in Bridgeport, what it’s goals are moving forward into the future, and what they have accomplished in their first two years as a sport.
Jeremiah Schwartz also has footage from the 2017 Bridgeport TRI event that took place this past weekend.
Also in FCIAC news, Ridgefield Aquatic Club swimmers AJ Bornstein and Kieran Smith — both rising seniors at Ridgefield High School — will be competing at the upcoming USA Swimming Phillips 66 Nationals and World Championships Trials.
Former New Canaan boys golf captain Justin Clark shot a 1-over par 73 to begin play in the 115th Connecticut Amateur Golf Championship Monday at Tashua Knolls Golf Course in Trumbull.
Clark finished the first round in a tie for 18th place after 1 round of play. The top 32 golfers after two rounds will advance to match play starting on Wednesday.
