The last time these two teams met was the CIAC Division I tournament last season, when Northwest Catholic downed New Canaan 6-3 and punched a ticket to the state finals, where they would eventually lose to Ridgefield 6-2.

The Northwest Catholic Lions enter Saturday afternoon’s contest 5-1 and are on a three-game winning streak, coming off a 7-3 win against Glastonbury. Head coach Dan Melanson will rely on senior Paul Arel, who so far has 11 points with 8 goals and 3 assists, and junior goaltender Mike Kaliff, who is off to a great start this season.

The New Canaan Rams didn’t get off to a good start, dropping their first five games of the season. Lately, the Rams seem to have found their stride as they have won their last two games, beating Stamford-Westhill 4-2 and Simsbury 2-0. Head coach Clark Jones, in his first season, has been dealt with some tough losses with a young team. Jones will rely on leaders such as Gunnar Granito, Quinn McMahon and Chase Glover to continue this winning streak and get this hockey program back to success.

Frank Granito, Mike Suppe, and Kevin Coleman will be on the call.
