On Demand: FCIAC Boys Hockey Championship – #1 Greenwich vs. #2 Ridgefield

The #1 Greenwich Cardinals face the defending champion #2 Ridgefield Tigers in the FCIAC boys hockey championship game live on the HAN Network on Saturday, March 3, at 7 p.m.

Greenwich defeated Ridgefield 5-3 Feb. 19. Nikita Kovalev had a hat trick for the Cardinals, who that day won the tiebreaker that gave them the top seed in the FCIAC tournament. Both Greenwich and Ridgefield finished the FCIAC season 10-1, good for 20 points. Both had first-round byes in the FCIAC.

Greenwich advanced to the final with a 10-4 win over No. 5 Fairfield in the semifinals Wednesday, led by Alex Mozian’s hat trick.

Ridgefield, were able to edge Darien 2-1 in the semifinals thanks to junior goaltender Sean Gordon who had 26 saves. Matt Walker and Breaden McSpedon both found the back of the net.


Frank Granito, John Kovach and Kevin Coleman will be on the call.


Both teams are among the top seeds in the state Division I tournament. Greenwich, ranked second on its 18-2 regular season record, hosts St. Joseph (15th, 5-14) on Wednesday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink. Ridgefield (16-4), ranked fifth, hosts the Fairfield co-op (12th, 11-9) Wednesday, March 7, at  7:30 p.m. at the Winter Garden.
