Ten Fairfield County student-athletes have nominated by our sports editors and broadcasters for the HAN-FCIAC Athletes of Week 1 of the 2017 spring sports season— sponsored by Danbury Orthopedics/OrthoCare Express. Check out the nominees and vote for your picks below.

The week 1 winners (voting will be open until Sunday at 11:59 pm) will be announced on Coffee Break on Monday, April 24, at 11 a.m. on HAN.Network.

HAN-FCIAC Male Athlete of the Week Nominees


Michael Mannella, Norwalk lacrosse

Mickey Mannella picked up 5 points on four goals and an assist in the Bears’ 11-6 victory over Stamford High before the holiday weekend. Mannella scored the games first two goals, and added three more points in the third quarter to help the Bears improve to 3-1 this season. 

Collin Lowe, Ridgefield High baseball

Collin Lowe pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits in a 4-2 victory over Trumbull High. A right-hander, Lowe struck out 10 batters in his first outing of the season, as the Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season.

Vince Camera, Fairfield Ludlowe baseball

Vince Camera drove in nine runs when Ludlowe swept a doubleheader from host Stamford High. The Falcon catcher, Camera had five RBIs in a 7-1 victory to open the twin bill, and then knocked in four runs with a grand slam home run in a 7-4 win in the nightcap.

Jack DeLeo, St. Joseph baseball

Jack DeLeo had four hits, including three doubles, and drove in four runs when the Cadets won their FCIAC opener with a 15-4 win over Bridgeport Central.

Billy Black, Wilton baseball

Black hurled a complete-game, three-hit shutout as the Wilton baseball team opened the season with a 1-0 win over Westhill.  He struck out nine in the masterpiece.

HAN-FCIAC Female Athlete of the Week Nominees

Genevieve DeWinter, Greenwich High lacrosse

Genevieve DeWinter scored five goals for the red birds in their 12-9 victory over Fairfield Warde, avenging last season’s overtime loss in the state semifinals. With the win the Cardinals improved to 3-0 on the season.

Katie Scigimpaglia, Norwalk softball

Katie Scigimpaglia had three hits, including a homer run and a triple when the Bears defeat St. Joseph, 8-4. She drove in four runs and scored twice.

Maisey Henesey, New Canaan lacrosse

Maisey Henesey scored four goals, and added an assist, in New Canaan’s lopsided win over the Norwalk Bears 18-6.

Paige Brown, Wilton girls lacrosse

Brown, a junior goalie, recorded a combined 23 saves in the Wilton girls lacrosse team’s one-goal wins over Ridgefield and Greenwich, including big saves in the final minutes of both games to preserve the wins.

Emily Tinnesz, Trumbull girls lacrosse

The senior captain led the way for the Eagles en route to their second win of the season over Danbury. Trumbull never trailed as they knocked off the Hatters by a final of 15-9, Tinnesz led all scorers in the game registering 4 goals and an assist.
