Eight Fairfield County student-athletes have been nominated by our sports editors and broadcasters for the HAN-FCIAC Athletes of Week 4 of the 2018 spring sports season— sponsored by OrthoConnecticut. Check out the nominees and vote for your picks.
The week 3 winners were Ben Fero of the Trumbull baseball team and Emily Gells of the Trumbull softball team.
The week 4 winners (voting will be open until Sunday, May 6, at 11:59 pm) will be announced on Coffee Break on Monday, May 7 at 11 a.m. on HAN.Network.
HAN-FCIAC Male Athlete of the Week Nominees
Zach Lopez, New Canaan baseball
Lopez pitched a complete-game shutout as the Rams defeated the Trumbull Eagles 1-0 last Monday in Mead Park. In seven innings, Lopez struck out nine, while allowing just five hits and one walk.
Jack Jones, Trumbull track & field
Jones scored two victories as he won the triple and long jumps at the 38th annual O’Grady Relays at Danbury High School on Saturday. Jones won the triple jump at 45 feet, 8 inches; and the long jump at 21 feet, 9 iniches.
Christian DeVivo, Ridgefield boys volleyball
DeVivo had 36 kills and 17 digs during the Tigers’ 3-2 victory over the Darien Blue Wave last Tuesday, Ridgefield trailed 2-1 before winning the final two sets 25-18 and 25-13 to take the match.
Ryan Donnelly, Fairfield Warde baseball
Donnelly had four hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs in the Mustangs’ 11-6 win at Weston on Thursday. He pitched the seventh as Warde improved to 5-5.
HAN-FCIAC Female Athlete of the Week Nominees
Grace Karas, Darien softball
Karas shut out the Wilton Warriors for 11 innings as the Blue Wave won a marathon game, 4-0, on Thursday. Karas, a freshman, allowed just five hits, all singles, with one walk and four strikeouts. She had six 1-2-3 innings, and added a single and an RBI at the plate.
Brycelin Stalteri, Stamford softball
Stalteri belted a three-run home run and had five RBIs in the Black Knights’ 14-4 win over Darien last Monday. She finished the day 2-for-3 and also scored two runs.
Jessica Otto, Norwalk softball
Otto went 4-for-4 at the plate, including a double, and scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Bears defeated Greenwich, 11-10, on Saturday.
Cat Connell, St. Joseph softball
Connell allowed only four hits and struck out 14 batters when the Cadets defeated Danbury High, 19-2.
