Eight Fairfield County student-athletes have been nominated by our sports editors and broadcasters for the HAN-FCIAC Athletes of Week 4 of the 2017 -2018 winter sports season— sponsored by OrthoConnecticut. Check out the nominees and vote for your picks.

The week 4 winners (voting will be open until Sunday, February 4, at 11:59 pm) will be announced on Coffee Break on Monday, February 5 at 11 a.m. on HAN.Network.

The week 3 winners were Matt Houghtin of the Fairfield Warde boys basketball team and Sydney Falterer of the Fairfield co-op girls ice hockey team.

HAN-FCIAC Male Athlete of the Week Nominees

James Maniscalco, Fairfield Warde indoor track and field

James Maniscalco helped Warde place first in the FCIAC Eastern Division championships in Wilton on Saturday. Maniscalco won the 1600 and the 3200. He was also a member of the Mustangs’ 4×750 relay team that finished second.

Jack Pisani, St. Joseph boys ice hockey

The senior winger had quite the week as the Cadets went 2-0 and scoring 23 goals combined in the victories. Pisani led all Cadets players with 11 points. Jack tallied 3 goals and 3 assists in a 12-8 victory over Trinity Catholic, and followed up that performance with 4 goals and an assists in an 11-5 win vs Wilton.

Jordan Brown, Danbury boys basketball

Brown racked up a game-best 35 points in the Hatters’ 74-62 win over the Warde Mustangs last Tuesday in Norwalk. Brown hit 14 shots from the field and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Danbury jumped ahead of Warde in the FCIAC standings and is 8-1 in the league and 11-1 overall, while Warde suffered its first conference loss and is 7-1 in the FCIAC and 8-4 overall.

Justin Mastroianni, New Canaan wrestling

Mastroianni was named the Outstanding Wrestlers of the Shoreline Scuffle tournament in Branford. A New Canaan freshman, Mastroianni won the 126-pound weight class championship, pinning Calvin Curtis of West Springfield, Mass., in 3:20.

HAN-FCIAC Female Athlete of the Week Nominees

Laura Turner, Norwalk girls indoor track and field

Laura Turner captured first place in the 300- and 600-meter runs at the FCIAC Eastern Division championships in Wilton on Saturday. She was a member of the Bears’ 4×225 relay team that placed third.

Peyton McNamara, Brien McMahon girls indoor track and field

Peyton McNamara placed first in the 50-meter dash and the long jump at the FCIAC Western Division championships at Staples on Saturday.

Blythe Novick, New Canaan girls ice hockey

Novick collected 21 saves and shut out the Darien Blue Wave, 2-0, last Wednesday at the Darien Ice House. New Canaan’s freshman goalie has now beaten rival Darien twice this season.

Christine Fiore, Darien girls basketball

Fiore scored a game-high 26 points as the Blue Wave tamed the Ridgefield Tigers, 47-37, Friday night at Darien High School. A senior co-captain, Fiore scored 12 in the first half and 14 in the second, while shooting 12-for-16 from the free throw line. Darien ended Ridgefield’s eight-game winning streak, while also moving into eighth place in the FCIAC playoff race.
