Ten Fairfield County student-athletes have been nominated by our sports editors and broadcasters for the HAN-FCIAC Athletes of Week 6 of the 2018 spring sports season— sponsored by OrthoConnecticut. Check out the nominees and vote for your picks.

The week 5 winners were Hadyn Gourley of the St. Joseph baseball team and Elizabeth Croxford of the Danbury softball team.

The week 6 winners (voting will be open until Sunday, May 20, at 11:59 pm) will be announced on Coffee Break on Monday, May 21 at 11 a.m. on HAN.Network.

HAN-FCIAC Male Athlete of the Week Nominees

Chris Brown, Trumbull baseball

Brown singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored three times as the Eagles defeated Warde 9-3. Brown had an RBI triple in a 5-1 victory over Trinity Catholic and four hits in a loss to Norwalk.

Rich Wekerle, Danbury baseball

Wekerle pitched a complete game two-hit shutout, and struck out 14 batters, when Danbury blanked Bridgeport Central 9-0.

Evan Felcher, Staples boys tennis

Felcher defeated Justin Speaker in the No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-3, as the Wreckers defeated the Greenwich Cardinals 4-3 in a battle of the FCIAC’s top two boys tennis teams last Wednesday. Felcher also swept New Canaan’s JJ Lee 6-4, 6-0, in a 7-0 shutout on Thursday. The Wreckers are 17-0 this season and have a 51-match winning streak

Kyle Woodring, Greenwich baseball

Woodring belted a walkoff solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Cardinals defeated Wilton, 4-3, last Monday. Woodring finished with a 3-for-4 day, driving in two of the Cardinals’ four runs. He also singled, walked and had two RBIs in Greenwich’s 7-3 victory over Warde on Friday.

Alex Price, Ridgefield baseball

Price continued his string of quality starts, holding Norwalk scoreless over five innings in Ridgefield’s 7-1 win over Norwalk. Price allowed two hits while walking one batter and striking out eight. He also contributed at the plate by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

HAN-FCIAC Female Athlete of the Week Nominees

Caitlyn Romero, Fairfield Ludlowe softball

Romero had back-to-back walk-off home runs for the Falcons in wins over Staples and Warde. Her two-run shot versus Staples was her second home run of the game in an 8-6 win. A freshman, Romero hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Mustangs, 5-4.

Delihlah Destefano, Trumbull softball

Destefano hit a pair of doubles and added a triple for the Eagles in their 11-6 victory over Warde. The senior knocked in two runs. Trumbull remained unbeaten in the FCIAC and is a game away from clinching the top spot.

Allie Clark, Fairfield Ludlowe softball

Clark hit a game tying home run and then singled and scored the go-ahead run when the Falcons knocked off St. Joseph 4-3. The Falcons improved to 12-1 on the season and in 2nd place in the conference heading to the final week of the season.

Maya Farrell, Wilton softball

Farrell had four hits, including two doubles in the Warriors’ 8-1 victory over McMahon. She had two RBIs and scored a run.

Gianna Iaquinto, Danbury softball

Iaquinto went 4-for-5 with a home run in Danbury’s 15-3 victory over Wilton. The Hatters improved to 9-5 with the victory and clinched a spot in this season’s FCIAC tournament.
