Looking for an upside to the recent, prolonged frigid weather? We have ice, and for the first time in years we can look forward to consistent hard water angling.
We hit the ice on Wethersfield Cove with Michael Jinx Jasensky, catching several species and giving a bit of a primer on this week’s Yankee Fisherman, airing Thursday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m.
Watch the show below:
There are a number of ice fishing derbies coming up. Unfortunately, the one we promoted on the Jan. 4 issues, to benefit the Riverton Children’s Trout Derby, is on hold until further notice. And the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection offers classes on ice fishing through its CARE program.
We’ve got news on where in Wilton to drop off your old Christmas tree for use in conservation projects, and get ready for the return of the Fly Fishing Film Tour, with two stops in Fairfield County this year.
Yankee Fisherman is hosted by John Kovach, editorial director, host and announcer for the HAN Network. A native of New Jersey, Kovach has fished since his father first took him out as a child. Kovach fishes fresh and salt water, ties flies, dabbles in lure making and promotes conservation, including a leadership role in the Connecticut Council of Trout Unlimited.
