Getting ready for the Connecticut Surfcasters Association's Demo Day

Mid winter means it’s time for shows, and we’ll get ready for the Connecticut Surfcasters Association’s Seventh Annual Demo Day on Yankee Fisherman Thursday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m.

We’ll revisit our introduction to surfcasting with Matt LeJeune, who is scheduled to be among the presenters at Demo Day, set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Clinton Town Hall, 54 East Main St. in Clinton. In addition to presentations, there will be dozens of vendors selling lures, surfcasting gear and accessories. There is a $5 donation at the door.

Also Saturday is Bar Flies, hosted by the Candlewood Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Stop the The Meeting House Pub in Bethel to tie flies, watch others tie flies or just enjoy a beverage. More information can be found at cvtu.org.

It’s not too early to think about getting tickets to the Fly Fishing Film Tour, with stops in Trumbull Feb. 2 and Stamford Feb. 23. Proceeds benefit education and conservation efforts by the Candlewood Valley, Mianus and Nutmeg chapters of Trout Unlimited.

Yankee Fisherman is hosted by John Kovach, editorial director, host and announcer for the HAN Network. A native of New Jersey, Kovach has fished since his father first took him out as a child. Kovach fishes fresh and salt water, ties flies, dabbles in lure making and promotes conservation, including a leadership role in the Connecticut Council of Trout Unlimited.
