Tying hackle-less flies for early season with Charles Petruccelli of Nutmeg TU

With spring around the corner, Charles Petruccelli of Nutmeg Trout Unlimited Chapter 217 demonstrates small, hackle-less flies that can attract the trout.

His demonstration at a recent Nutmeg TU meeting precedes a clinic on small stream fishing, to be held at Lake Mohegan in Fairfield Saturday, March 11, at 11 a.m.

With most waters closed prior to opening day, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is getting ready to stock the trout management areas.

There are a number of events this weekend, including the Housatonic Fly Fisherman’s Association’s annual expo, an open house at Deerfield Fly Shop, and the World Fishing & Outdoor Expo in Suffern, N.Y. Watch the show below:

Yankee Fisherman, presented by The Dock Shop, airs Thursdays at 1 p.m. on the HAN Network. Previous episodes can be watched on demand or listened to as a podcast.

Yankee Fisherman is hosted by John Kovach, editorial director, host and announcer for the HAN Network. A native of New Jersey, Kovach has fished since his father first took him out as a child. Kovach fishes fresh and salt water, ties flies, dabbles in lure making and promotes conservation, including a leadership role in the Connecticut Council of Trout Unlimited.
